Supporting Working Families

As a fired federal worker, Allison understands the strain on families trying to get by in this economy. Displaced workers struggle with the same issues in accessing services and finding employment. Even those who are still employed are struggling to afford the rising cost of living and high housing costs. She aims to work with the council to ensure that our county can continue to benefit from the talented individuals who work and live here. She wants to see that Montgomery County continues to be a desirable destination for employers and workers alike.

What Allison is going to do about it

Families in Montgomery County are demanding more affordable housing, better services, and better schools. Working people deserve to be able to live and work here and not be pushed out into less expensive counties with longer commutes and less time for their families. Displaced workers deserve services that meet their needs.

Allison will work with local partners to demand truly affordable housing in this county that working people can afford. She supports rent stabilization efforts and commits to funding the staff needed to fully administer the program. She also supports Just Cause legislation at the state level, because tenants do not deserve unfair or arbitrary displacement or huge rent hikes designed to push good tenants out of their housing. She also acknowledges that designated "affordable housing" is often out of reach for low income earners and supports exploring options to create social housing in Montgomery County.

Allison will push Montgomery County's unemployment services to modernize and meet the needs of educated, highly-skilled work seekers who need more than resume writing workshops, they need help translating their work experience and getting past the companies' human resources AI filters and staff that actually try to help them access the benefits they've paid into.

As a user of County services, be they libraries, RideOn bus, or unemployment services, Allison believes that a wealthy county like this one can and should provide high-quality services for all of its residents. A county that has seven billionaires living in it does not need to be raising taxes on working people or cutting services to the folks who make this county what it is.
